Caudillos secures the general leadership after defeating Gallos Negros de Querétaro

With a record of eight wins and zero losses, they tie up the playoffs at home

The Chihuahua team, the Caudillos, secured the overall leadership of the 2023 season of the American Football League (LFA) with two weeks left of action, after defeating the Gallos Negros de Querétaro at home with a score of 47-13 in Week 8 of the LFA.

The game began with the Gallos Negros offense surprising the home team, who with a 35-yard pass opened the scoring at the hands of Deshaun David and with the extra point they would be up 0-7. However, the Caudillos responded on defense with an interception by Jorge Revell, reviving the attack and with a 43-yard Jeremy Johnson “bomb” to Emmanuel Harris they would tie the game with the extra from Enrique López.

On Gallos' next offensive series, Máximo González would sack the quarterback, returning possession to Chihuahua. On the fourth down punt, Juwan Manigo's show would be present and he would return the ball 94 yards to make the score 13-7 at the end of the first quarter.

After resuming play, defensive player Óscar Gutiérrez “Big O” would cause a loose ball that Abiud Ortega would recover, giving Chihuahua the attack.

Offensive that would be completed with a 7-yard run by Justin Lewis, making a good conversion through the air with Markcus Hardy, score 21-7.

Caudillos' special teams would be the protagonists in a punt when the kicker Enrique López himself recovered the ball after a fumble. Offensive series that would be taken advantage of by Caudillos with a score through the air through Juwan Manigo and a 60-yard reception, placing the score at 27-7.

Gallos would respond before going to halftime and with a 39-yard touchdown pass to Trae Barnett they would leave the score 27-13 at halftime.

When the game resumed, Querétaro would drag the ball to midfield, however, the Chihuahuan defense would intercept a pass and return it to the end zone, in the hands of Joshua Donaldson, increasing the lead to 34-13 after Samuel Ovalle's extra point.

Within the last quarter, Caudillos would win through the air with a 24-yard pass from Johnson to Emmanuel Harris, with ten minutes left in the game, Caudillos would go up 40-13 on the scoreboard.

At the close of the match, Víctor Cruz would come in to command the Caudillos de Chihuahua offense, who would deliver the ball to Justin Lewis on a two-yard run for one more score and set final numbers with Enrique López's extra point at 47- 13 for Chihuahua over Querétaro.

With this victory, the Chihuahua team continues to make history, setting an undefeated record of 8 wins and zero losses in the American Football League, securing the overall lead for the playoffs, resting the wild card week and hosting the post-season at home.

Caudillos will resume his activity in the current campaign on May 6 when he visits the Raptors of the Valley of Mexico in Week 9 of the LFA.
